An estimated 104 million viewers tuned in to the Super Bowl 47 half-time show to watch Beyonce take the stage, more than any other half-time show except last year's headliner, Madonna. Madonna's fan base goes back a couple more decades than Beyonce's, not to mention she had help from M.I.A., Nicki Minaj, and Cee Lo Green, so this was no doubt a phenomenal showing for Beyonce.
Just to be clear, a Super Bowl half-time performance is the single biggest booking a recording artist can land, bigger than any music award show, bigger than any world tour, bigger than an Oprah interview, and bigger than the presidential inauguration.
So here's what I thought about the Queens B's BIG performance:
It wasn't the performance of her career. Anyone who has seen her in full concert can attest, but still the performance was miles ahead of any of her contemporaries.
Kelly Rowland was on point, she's the best she's ever been performance wise. She put in "Work" on Beyonce's "Single Ladies".
Michelle Williams is looking worrisome thin these days, thin frame and thin vocals. She didn't miss any steps but I was afraid she was going to tip over up there. She has never been as well rehearsed as her band mates but something just didn't seem right with her.
It takes several weeks of rehearsals for a true DC3 performance, circa 2005.
Overall, Queen B still reigns. All hail.
